The thunderbird, or firebird, of Native legend has many meanings among different tribes. Some of those associations are transformation, a messenger from the spirit world or the Creator, authority, indomitable spirit, expansiveness & provision. Some view the thunderbird as an omen of war. Thunderbird and the thunder which accompanied it, was a foretelling of victory. This piece was drawn to evoke the warrior spirit which resides deep within all of us, and not so deep within others. At the heart of the thunderbird sits lion, who represents courage, but who also represents pride, so be certain to be aware of pride when bringing about our warrior side. The sun represents masculine energy, as does the sword, both associated with the warrior. In the tail of the thunderbird we are given three choices- to walk the path of friendships, loyalty and wise teachings (the wolf), the path of man and earthly things, or the path of war (talon). Choose wisely what you fight for. Some things ARE worth fighting for.
